Above the Clouds

"I missed my flight!" The text came through while I was actually teaching a class, which was a serious distraction! My 23-year-old daughter had planned to fly out to visit friends, but didn't get to the airport until 25 minutes before the flight left. "What will you do?", I asked. She said she was on 'standby' for a 2:51 flight -- meaning she had to kill time in the airport for about three hours not knowing whether she would get on that flight or not. It was a stressful few hours! When I found that she was in the bathroom and not listening for her name to board, she said "Give it up! I'm not getting on that *#*%^ flight!" She was panicking -- and so was I! It looked like her dad and I would be driving out to Baltimore to get her (during the rush hour). More than that inconvenience, it was distressing to realize she'd pretty much wasted the $500 she'd spent on the plane tickets AND was missing out on seeing her friends. As I texted back and forth to finalize pick-up details with my husband, I received the following text: "Jade bought me a ticket!" Wowsa. Her friend had ponied up the money for a same-day ticket -- which must have cost quite a bit -- but saved the day for my daughter!
